Father and Daughter Collaboration

A quick nod to this lovely Father and Daughter collaboration highlighted in my earlier Toby Winteringham and Patternity post. The new images and quotes come from a May 14th, 2010 post at Purewhite - Designs by Kirsty White

"The collaboration with daughter, Grace, has borne fruit. Her company, Patternity, has been selected by Hidden Art to go to Salone Satellite 2010 in Milan."
"The Phase pattern used in the range explores traditional marquetry craft revisited – true to the technique, the design represents the transitions between cutting out and replacing in, combining old with new, bold with neutral.
I think it was really refreshing to see a traditional technique using contemporary pattern and colour."

Toby Winteringham - Paternity and Grace

I have long admired the graceful curves and fine contemporary design of Toby Winteringham's hand crafted furniture and mirrors. Like Anita Lear, Toby trained at London's Royal College of Art. For nearly thirty years he and a small team of craftsmen have been working out of his studio, located in a barn on the outskirts of King's Lynn in Norfolk. Toby Winteringham designs and creates beautiful pieces that feature hand cut marquetry, veneering and fine cabinetwork.

Grace Winteringham and Patternity
Recently Toby teamed up with his daughter, Grace Winteringham to create three new furniture collections with colorfully patterned marquetry designs for her company Patternity. These designs are: Bird; Phase and Shift.

Bird, Phase and Shift

The Bird sideboard is a marquetry pattern, developed along the lines of Phase (see images below), although very different in feel. Shift is a really vibrant table design which can be expanded into all sorts of furniture pieces. Recently shown at Decorex this, and Bird, were on show with the Society of Designer Craftsmen at the Mall Galleries, London from January 9th - 17th 2010. At the opening, on Friday 8th January, It was announced that Toby had won the Gane Trust Award for Design and Craftmanship.
